Kenneth Smedley MacLean, FRCP

Kenneth Smedley MacLean was born on 22 November 1914, the elder child of Hugh MacLean (1879-1957) and Ida MacLean née Smedley (1877-1944). His birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1915 in the Wandsworth Registration District, London and his sister was Barbara Duckworth MacLean (1917-2013).

Electoral registers in 1938 show him listed, together with his parents, at 2 Elm Park Gardens, London, SW10 but the registers in 1939 show him at Guy's Residential College, Great Maze Pond, London, SE1.

On 22 December 1939 he was commissioned as a Temporary Surgeon Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and on the following day he married Joan Hardaker (1914-2002) in Emmanuel Church, Lyncroft Gardens, London, NW6.

They had three children: Anthony Hugh MacLean (1942-1973); Anne MacLean (b.1946) and Michael MacLean (b.1948).

Telephone directories in from 1950 to 1955 list him at Summerfold, High Drive, Woldingham, Surrey and from 1958 to 1981 at Heathdown, The Ridge, Woldingham. On 16 November 1959 he is shown as arriving at Southampton Docks with his wife, having embarked in New York, USA, aboard the RMS Queen Mary of The Cunard Steam-Ship Company Limited line. The ship's manifest describes him as a physician and they were residing at Heathdown, The Ridge, Woldingham.

Telephone directories in 1982 list him at Keats House, St Thomas Street, London, SE1 and from 1982 onwards at 7 Icehouse Wood, Oxted, Surrey. 

He died, aged 95 years, on 4 December 2009, his death being registered in the Surrey East Registration District that covers the Oxted area. He was in the churchyard of St Agatha's Church, Church Road, Woldingham, Caterham, CR3 7JG.
