Fireman killed as a result of an air raid on Old Palace School, Bow, E3 on 20 April 1941.
Our colleague Andrew Behan has kindly researched this man: Auxiliary Fireman Leslie Thomas Healey was born on 30 March 1909 in Anerley, Kent, a son of Herbert Sydney Healey and Isabella Healey née Ironside. His father was a Plasterer and his mother was a Dressmaker. The 1911 census shows him living with his parents, three elder sisters, an aunt and cousin at 70 Marlow Road, Anerley, Kent. He was educated at Balgowan Central School, Balgowan Road, Beckenham, Kent. In mid 1935 he married Aimee Mary Austin in Bromley, Kent and the 1939 England and Wales Register shows them living at 15 Greenview Avenue, Croydon, Surrey and his occupation was listed as a Filing Clerk.
He joined the Auxiliary Fire Service and was attached to the West Wickham Fire Station. He died when a German bomb landed on Auxiliary Fire Service Sub Station 24U, which was housed in Old Palace LCC School, St. Leonards Street, Poplar, aged 32 years, on 20 April 1941. He was buried at Beckenham Cemetery and Crematorium, Elmers End Road, Beckenham, BR3 4TD. Administration of his estate was granted to both his widow and his mother. His effects totalled £1,338-16s-5d.
