Royal Engineer killed by an exploding bomb while assisting in the attempt to disarm it.

Andrew Behan has kindly carried out some research on this man: Lieutenant Richard James was born about 1900, the son of John and Emily James of Penarth, Glamorganshire, Wales and was the husband of Joan James of Llandrindod Wells, Radnorshire, Wales. He was serving with Royal Engineers, Service Number 141081 when he was killed, aged 40 years, on 13 December 1940, when attempting to defuse a bomb that had fallen on 590 Romford Road, Manor Park on 5 December 1940. He is buried in Sec.B, Grave 317 in Penarth Cemetery, Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales.
