Born Oldham. Author, journalist, doctor and member of parliament. Served in the Royal Army Medical Corps in the Boer War, WW1 and WW2, winning a Military Cross.
First Jewish Labour Party candidate. Grandfather of actor Christopher Guest who is the 5th Baron Haden-Guest.
