Margaret McMillan

Socialist propogandist and educationalist. Born at Throgg's Neck, Westchester county, New York. Both her parents were from Scotland, and the family returned there when her father died. She attended various boarding schools on the continent before returning to Britain as a governess. After teaching in different parts of the country, she and her sister, Rachel opened an experimental school clinic in Bow. Her most famous enterprise, was the Deptford Camp School, which was primarily for the education of the working classes. She published numerous articles on child education. Died at the Bowden House Nursing Home, Harrow on the Hill.
