Marie Louise Harris was born on 20 July 1922, a daughter of Edward Harris (1888-1948) and Margaret Rose Harris née Gilbey (1897-1987). Her birth was registered in the 3rd quarter of 1922 in the Bethnal Green Registration District, London.
The England and Wales Register that was compiled on 29 September 1939 confirms her date of birth as 20 July 1922 and that she was a tea packer living at 20 Scawfell Street, Bethnal Green, with her parents and two of her sisters: Lilian Anne Harris (1920-1995) - a tailor's machinist and Emily F. Harris (b.1924) - an under-clothing machinist. Her father was shown as a general labourer and a Warden in Air Raid Precautions based at the Shoreditch Metropolitan Borough Council, whilst her mother was described as an office cleaner.
She was injured by a German bomb that fell on the Columbia Market air raid shelter on the night of 7th/8th September 1940 and died on 8 September 1940 at Bethnal Green Hospital, Cambridge Heath Road, London, E2. Her death was registered, as aged 18 years, in the 3rd quarter of 1940 in the Bethnal Green Registration District, London. Her on 18 September 1940 in , Sebert Road, London, E7 0NP.
She is shown as 'HARRIS Marie 18' on the Columbia Market air raid shelter memorial in the Rose Garden, Old Market Square, Ravenscroft Park, London, E2.
She is also commemorated on the , on the and in that is kept just outside the entrance to St George's Chapel at the west end of Westminster Abbey.
