Marie Taglioni

Ballet dancer. Born Stockholm to an Italian father and Swedish mother, both in the dancing world. From an early age she lived around Europe. First appeared in London in 1829. She was aclaimed in her role in La Sylphide, her dancing, particularly en pointe, being exceptionally light and elegant. Retired in 1847. 1874 settled in Connaught Square as a deportment teacher. Died Marseilles where she had gone to live with her brother two years earlier.

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography has a birth date 5 years in advance of that on the plaque.
