Mariinsky Theatre

Ballet and opera theatre in St Petersburg.  Named after the Empress Maria Alexandrovna, wife of Tsar Alexander II. Many of the works of Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov were premiered here. After the Russian Revolution it was renamed several times, probably most famously as the Kirov Theatre.
