Nicolai Gustavovich Legat, born St Petersburg, Russia 1869, died London 1937. Russian ballet dancer and teacher with the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg. His studio here (formerly 46 Colet Gardens) was attended by leading international ballet dancers from 1932 until his death.

The building is home to the . Founded in 1951 by Dr. F. C. Roles and his friends who had been associates of Ouspensky, the Study Society was established to carry on his aims and researches.

The unusual and lovely buildings just to the east were artists' studios, by Frederick Wheeler - has an excellent write-up.
