Piotr Demianovich Ouspensky, b. Moscow 1878, d. Lyne 1947. Philosopher & author. Teacher of the Fourth Way. Author of A New Model of the Universe, Tertium Organum, In Search of the Miraculous. Taught and stayed here 1938 - 1947.

The building is home to the . Founded in 1951 by Dr. F. C. Roles and his friends who had been associates of Ouspensky, the Study Society was established to carry on his aims and researches.

The unusual and lovely buildings just to the east were artists' studios, by Frederick Wheeler - has an excellent write-up.
