Sculptor and medallist. Mary Gaskell Gillick OBE, née Tutin. Born Nottingham. Best known for her effigy of Elizabeth II used on UK coinage 1953-70. 1905, she married Ernest Gillick, whom she had met when they were both studying at Nottingham School of Art. We were very pleased to find this photo, showing Mary in the pergola to the south of the burial ground with the studios in the background. At it is captioned "Mary Gillick in the grounds of her home in Chelsea holding a plaster model for the new coinage, 1952, photograph, British Museum."
