The 1939 England and Wales Register confirms that he and his wife were still living at 70 Columbia Road and his occupation was recorded as a cabinet maker working on his own account. Unusually, the dates of birth of both him and his wife were listed as 'Not known' and just the year of his birth, 1874, was given.
His death was registered as aged 65 years in the 3rd quarter of 1940 in the Bethnal Green Registration District, London. He died on the night of 7th/8th September 1940 in the Columbia Market Air Raid Shelter which took a direct hit from a bomb.
