Newton Anderson

Squadron Leader Newton E. Anderson was born on 26 July 1910 in , Louisiana, USA, the son of James McCullock Anderson (1868-1924) and Alma Anderson née Newton (1886-1955).

United States Federal Census returns show that in 1930 he was living in , New York, USA and in 1940 in , Illinois, USA.

He joined the , service number 87008, serving as flight lieutenant and according to the he was one of the first named members of . When the squadron was re-equipped with the he was part of their first operational mission on 17 August 1941.

In the 3rd quarter of 1941 he married Phyllis Maud Nutt in the Kensington registration district. He was , promoted to Squadron Leader and transferred to command . He was reported missing believed killed, aged 31 years, on 29 June 1942 when flying a Spitfire Mk Vb, , failed to return from an operational flight over Northern France. As he has no known grave he is commemorated on of the l at Runnymede, Egham, Surrey.
