Oskar Kokoschka

Painter. Born in Pöchlarn, Austria. He studied in Vienna and worked in Berlin for many years where he painted expressionist portraits and did illustrations for the periodical 'Der Sturm'. Branded a degenerate by the nazi party, he fled first to Prague and then to Britain, adopting British nationality in 1946. His most famous work is probably 'The Bride of the Wind'. He finally settled in Switzerland, where he died in Montreux.
