Pearl Connor

Pearl Connor

Pearl Connor-Mogotsi, née Nunez, was a Trinidadian-born theatrical and literary agent, actress and cultural activist, who was a pioneering campaigner for the recognition and promotion of African Caribbean arts.

In 1948 she moved to the UK from Trinidad and married Edric Connor, a Trinidadian singer and actor. Edric directed the first carnivals, organised by Claudia Jones in 1959.

She deferred her law studies to support Edric's career, and this led in 1956, to the founding of her agency, named the Edric Connor Agency (later, the Afro-Asian Caribbean Agency).  This agency contributed to the development of the Notting Hill Carnival

The Pioneers plaque spells her name as Conner.
