Police Constable Laurence Peter Brown

PC Laurence Peter Brown was killed aged 27.  From : "Bled to death after a man pulled out a sawn-off shotgun and, without warning, fired directly into his chest as he walked along Pownall Road in Orwell Court, on the Suffolk Estate in Hackney, while responding to reports on police radio that somebody was trying to break into a car. His colleagues rushed to his aid but were unable to save him."

His killer was jailed for life but committed suicide in prison.

Our colleague, Andrew Behan, adds that Brown was born on 3 November 1962, his birth being registered in the 4th quarter of 1962 in the Ilford Registration District, Essex (now Greater London) and that his mother's maiden name was Powell.

He died on 28 August 1990 and his death was registered as aged 27 years in September 1990 in the Tower Hamlets Registration District, Greater London.

He is shown as "P.C. LAURENCE BROWN" on the Police Memorial Trusts's memorial stone at Pownall Road, London, E8.
