Andrew Behan has reseearched Woodcock: Private Rupert William Woodcock was born in Cambridge and his birth was registered in the first quarter of 1882. His father, David Woodcock was a Valet. In 1907 he married Augusta Helen Andrews and they were living at 35 Pirbright Road, Wandsworth. Their son Arthur Cyril Woodcock was born in 1912 by which time they had moved to 38 Balvernie Grove, Wandsworth. When his son was baptised on on 16 June 1912 his occupation was recorded as a clerk.

His Medal Records show that he served in both the Royal Fusiliers with a service number of 46213 and the 2nd Battalion, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex) Regiment where his service number was G/41330. His wife died in early 1916. He was killed in action, aged 35 years, on 27 November 1917 and as he has no known grave he is commemorated on Panel 115 of the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnerbeke, Belguim. His army effects totalling £21-15s-5d were sent to his stepmother, Sarah Woodstock on 8 May 1918 and his father was granted administration of his estate on 18 May 1918 in which his effects totalled £154-15s-0d. His stepmother was sent a war gratuity of £6-0s-0d on 5 November 1919. He was ;posthumously awarded the British War medal 1914-1918 and the Victory Medal.
