Awarded the VC for his heroism on 1 May 1918, age 29, while serving in the London Regiment (London Scottish). "For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty during an attack. Although severely injured and under heavy fire he displayed the utmost valour and endurance until his position was relieved. (El Haud, Transjordan)". Freemason at: â„–4033, St Vedast Lodge.
