Robert Galbraith Reid

Robert Galbraith Reid

A trustee of Lambeth Savings Bank in or after 1903. He seems to have lived an interesting life:

In the 1893 '' we found a witness: ROBERT GALBRAITH REID: "I am a registered medical practitioner of 176, Lambeth Road.." - surely our man. His evidence continues: "—on the morning of 15th May I was called by Joseph Gavan, and went with him to Hercules Road—in a room there I saw the deceased lying in the centre of the room, on his right side, quite dead, but warm—I saw a quantity of blood on his shirt—I examined the body—I found this knife fixed in his back, just below the shoulder-blade and spine on the left side; it must have required considerable force to pierce the parts—I drew out the knife and gave it to the inspector—I made a postmortem within twenty-four hours—the thorac aorta had been transfixed by the knife—I saw the prisoner at the station and asked him cross questions—the inspector took down his statement.... I thought he was insane at the time. ...That fact would tend the more to show that he is insane—his idea is that he acted in self-defence—he is undoubtedly of unsound mind at the present time." Conclusion: "GUILTY of the act, being insane at the time. — To be detained during Her Majesty's pleasure."

reports: "Consideration of the charge against Robert Galbraith Reid, M.B., 202 Ewell Road, Surbiton, formerly of 176 Lambeth Road, that he had abuced {sic} his position as a medical man by having sexual intercourse with the wife of a patient, occupied the Council the whole of Saturday. A lengthy sitting was held on Tuesday, and in the result the Council found that the charge was not proved."

A has a man with this name, born in 1865 to a family living in Camberwell - could be our man. Also, if he moved to Kingston upon Thames, then this, in , could be him: "Words, Music and Who's Who in the Pageant 1924 by St Lawrence Finny and Dr Robert Galbraith Reid."
