Ronald Charles Wiggins

Ronald Charles Wiggins

The memorial does not give Wiggins a title (as it does for all the other names) and we are at a loss with "Southwark T/C".  But we think Wiggins was a firefighter who died as a result of a fire.

Our colleague, Andrew Behan, has researched the man and although he is listed on the he does not appear (as at 2025) in the . Andrew believes that "Southwark T/C" refers to the London Fire Brigade's Training Centre which in 1965 was attached to Southwark Fire Station.

Ronald Charles Wiggins was born on 9 January 1938, a son of Frederick Edward Wiggins (1908-1980) and Dorothy Ethel Annie Wiggins née Oakley (1908-2006). His birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1938 in the Epping Registration District, Essex.

The 1939 England and Wales Registers shows him as Ronald C. Wiggins, date of birth as 9 January 1938, living at 71 The Drive, Romford, Essex (now Greater London), with his parents. His father was described as a porter employed by the London and North Eastern Railway.

He married Jill Irene Simpkins (1939-2013) in the 3rd quarter of 1960 in the Hackney Registration District, London and they had two children: Sandra L. Wiggins (b.1961) and Terence A. Wiggins (b.1964).

His death was registered as aged 27 years in the 4th quarter of 1965 in the Southwark Registration District, London.
