Rosa Luxemburg

Rosa Luxemburg

Revolutionary socialist. Born Rozalia Luksenburg, she was a Polish and naturalised-German orthodox Marxist, and anti-War activist during WW1. She became a key figure of the revolutionary socialist movements of Poland and Germany during the late 19th and early 20th century, particularly the Spartacist uprising, following which she, with others, was captured, tortured and executed.

In 1907, she attended the Russian Social Democrats' Fifth Party Day which was held in London, at the site of the plaque. Those present included: Gorky, Lenin, Plekhanov, Stalin, Trotsky, Zinoviev and others opposed to Tsarist rule in Russia.
