Simon Wood

A project worker for a charity for homeless children. Killed in the Ladbroke Grove rail disaster, aged 40.

Andrew Behan has kindly carried out further research: Simon Edward Wood was born on 30 June 1959 in Northampton. In 1981 he married Catherine Etherington in Chichester, West Sussex and they had two daughters, Chantal Wood, born 1987 and Coralie, born 1989. The family lived at 28 Greenfields, Liss, Hampshire. In addition to being a school governor and the captain of the bell-ringers of St Mary's Church in Liss, he had been for two years a project worker for the Foyer Federation, a charity that helps 16 to 25 years old who are homeless. He also campaigned relentlessly for rail safety as his village's representative on the local council's rail users consultative committee. He died, aged 40 years, on 5 October 1999 in the Ladbroke Grove rail disaster. The subsequent inquest was informed that he was identified by documents, a wedding ring and clothing.
