Sir Charles Thomas Wheeler

Sculptor. Born Staffordshire. Early rheumatic fever made him unfit for active service in 1914 so he served on the home front casting and moulding false limbs for amputees. Died at home in Mayfield, Sussex. Other London works:
The animals on India House in The Strand; Various work at the Bank of England; the two bronze Mercurys either side of the entrance to Globe House, Temple Place; the massive "Earth" and "Water" figures high on the Ministry of Defence in Horse Guards Avenue; Church House, Westminster
Royal Commonwealth Society in Northumberland Avenue; and you can get a close up view of 4 pieces of his work, behind glass, on the top of 1 New Change. has some pictures.
