Sir William Constable

From Yorkshire. MP for Scarborough and then Knaresborough. Colonel of a regiment of foot in Cromwell's Parliamentary army, governor of Gloucester and one of the signatories to the death warrant of Charles I. Buried Westminster Abbey. When Charles II was restored to the throne he ordered the disinterment of the bodies of Oliver Cromwell and his supporters, including Constable, and their reburial in an unmarked pit in St Margaret's churchyard, Westminster.
