Solomon Lever

Born near Bialystok. Poland. Arrived in Britain in 1905. Hackney Councillor 1945-56, Mayor 1951-2.

Died in London as the result of an abduction. He was tricked into entering a a bogus police car and his keys to an office containing a safe were taken. The thieves robbed the safe and Lever's body was later found in Epping Forest. The cause of death was heart disease or coronary thrombosis. No one was ever charged with the crime.
