From : The Sisters of Mercy's convent was established in Bermondsey with the specific objective of opening a school here. The school was first run in East Lane until 1840 when a new school in the Convent grounds was ready.
This shows the convent on the west side of Parker Row between Dockhead and what is now the A200 (which did not exist at the time). Schools for girls and boys on the site are labelled. Roughly the same is shown in this . Oddly the later map shows a large school in East Lane but no school is shown on that road on the earlier map so we presume it was unrelated to the convent schools.
The community grew very quickly, and by 1912 the school had outgrown the premises. The current building in George Row was constructed as a replacement, opening in spring 1913. This school is shown on a which also shows the convent, one of the schools on its site still labelled as such, and the school in East Lane.
The St Joseph's History page adds that, 1859-1900s, there was also a private school in the convent grounds but this is not apparent from the maps.
