Station Officer Thomas Carter

Thomas Carter was born circa 1919. He married Lucy Ada Smith in the 1st quarter of 1958 in Lewisham Registration District, London.

He was serving as a Station Officer in the London Fire Brigade when, together with Fireman James Anthony Bardens, he died on 12 February 1962 from injuries resulting from being hit by a passing train whilst dealing with a small fire involving a railway bridge over Wyndham Road, London, SE5.

His death was registered as aged 43 years in the 1st quarter of 1962 in the Camberwell Registration District, London.

Probate records show that his address had been 48 Braxfield Road, Brockley, London. Administration was granted on 30 April 1962 to his widow and his effects totalled £600-0s-0d.

He is shown as 'Stn O Thomas Carter' on the memorial plaque on the screen wall of the London Fire Brigade Memorial in Highgate Cemetery, Swain's Lane, London, N6. He is also commemorated on the National Firefighters Memorial at Sermon Lane, London, EC4, on  and on the .
