Terry Ainsworth

Terence John Richard Ainsworth was born on 3 December 1928, the elder son of James Richard Ainsworth and Florence Ada Ainsworth née Clark (1905-1986). His birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1929 in the . The birth of his brother, Ronald C. Ainsworth (b.1931), was also registered in the St. Pancras registration district.

Electoral registers from 1928 to 1931 show his parents listed at 9 Grange Street, Camden; from 1932 to 1934 at 21 Willingham Terrace, Camden and from 1935 to 1939 at , London, NW5. In the 1939 England and Wales Register he is listed as a schoolboy in a house on the , Saffron Walden, Essex, with his mother and his brother.

Electoral registers from 1953 show him listed at , Battersea, as do telephone directories from 1975. He married Pauline Griffin in the 2nd quarter of 1956 in the Battersea registration district.

He died, aged 46 years, on 6 August 1975 when he and his colleague Bob Sharp, both of the Stag Brewery Mortlake Engineers Department, attempted to rescue a colleague, William Caswell. In the attempt all three died. Their heroism was honoured by the Carnegie Hero Fund Trust. See our plaque page for information about the incident.

Probate records confirm that his home address had been 27 Gorst Road, London, SW11 and when administration of his estate was granted on 11 December 1975 his effects totalled £6,274.
