Thomas Joseph Harley

Former lifeguard, of Lavender Street, Stratford. In the early hours of 23 October 2004, after an argument outside the Ram pub, Canning Town, he was beaten with a brick and died in hospital some days later.  His traditional Hungarian funeral was attended by over 600 people.

Four months earlier another violent incident had taken place at the same location, involving the man later convicted of killing Harley. But it seems the pub was allowed to continue operating.

Our colleague, Andrew Behan, states that the birth of Thomas Joseph Harley was registered in June 1984 in the Waltham Forest Registration District, London. The births of his younger twin siblings: Jordan Karl Harley and Jozef Karl Harley were also registered in the Waltham Forest Registration District in March 1993. The maiden name of their mother was Polya.

His death was registered as Thomas Joseph Harley, aged 20 years, following a coroner's inquiry, in February 2005 in the Tower Hamlets Registration District, London.

He is commemorated as 'Tommie Harley' on the memorial plaque attached to Column No.P12 of the Docklands Light Railway, in North Woolwich Road, London, E13.
