Thomas Sheraton

Thomas Sheraton

Furniture designer. Born Stockton-on-Tees, co. Durham. Moved to London in 1790 and published furniture design books. Returned to co. Durham in 1799 and became a Baptist minister. His second period in London began in 1802 but was not successful possibly due to a mental deterioration. He died at home, 8 Broad Street. There seems to be no known portrait so we illustrate this article with one of Sheraton's elegant Pembroke tables.
