Tom Thornton

Tom Thornton

Newspaper proprietor and campaigner. Born in Norwood. He became owner and editor of the Beckenham Journal, and used his influence in helping to establish the Croydon Road Recreation Ground. His premises were at Thornton's Corner. Later he led the campaign that stopped the local council turning the land that is now Kelsey Park into a housing complex. His photo shows him to be a very stylish gentleman.
