Founded by Scottish marine engineer, Alexander Wilson, 90–92 Wandsworth Road. Originally named Alex Wilson and Company, then Vauxhall Iron Works from 1897, the company built pumps and marine engines. In 1903 it built its first car. Moved to Luton in 1905. Name changed to Vauxhall Motors in 1907. Taken over by General Motors in 1925.
