Wilfred Henry Wright

Wilfred Henry Wright was born on 3 March 1902 in Hampstead, the son of Albert Edward Wright and Elizabeth Emily Wright, née Fone. His father was bus conductor. He was baptised on 13 July 1902 at Emmanuel Church, West End, Hampstead and the family were living at 30 Broomsleigh Street, NW6. On 1 June 1929 he married Minnie Louise Moreton at St Luke's Parish Church, Woodside, Croydon and at the time he was a clerk, living at 35 Claude Road, SE15. The 1939 England and Wales Register, that was compiled for the issue of National Identity Cards, shows him as the Financial Secretary of the Presbyterian Church of England and living with his family at 98 Canterbury Street, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. At the time of his death he and his wife were living at 'Abinger', Bushey Way, Beckenham, Kent.

He was killed, aged 42 years on 9 February 1945 as result of enemy action when attending a conference at Church House, 98 Tavistock Place, WC1, when it was hit by a V2 rocket. Probate was granted and his estate totalled £6,587-14s-10d. He is also commemorated in the Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour, located near St. Georges's Chapel in Westminster Abbey, London.
