Commemorated on a memorial as having died in WW2.

William Forwood

William Forwood was born on 2 December 1916, the only son and the fourth of the six children of Alfred John Forward (1884-1962) and Jane Forwood née York (1884-1951).

His birth was registered in the Shoreditch registration district and on 17 December 1916 he was baptised at St Mary's Church, Hoxton. The baptismal register shows the family was living at 37 Westmoreland Place, Hoxton and that his father was a labourer.

By 1921 electoral registers showed his parents were living at 32 Westmoreland Place, Hoxton, and he was listed there living with his parents on the 1937, 1938 and 1939 registers.

In 1939 he married Margaret Rose (1918-1994) in the Shoreditch registration district and the 1939 England and Wales Register shows their address to have been 47 Herbert Grove, Shoreditch. His occupation was recorded as a lift attendant.

He enlisted as a Private in the 1st Battalion, The Middlesex Regiment, service number 6211592, and died, aged 27 years, on 31 July 1944. He was buried in Bois-du-Homme, France, but on 2 December 1946 his body was exhumed and reburied in in the Tilly-sur-Seulles War Cemetery, Rue de la Seulles, Tilly-sur-Seulles, Normandy, France.
