William Isaac Palmer

William Isaac Palmer

Manufacturer and philanthropist. Member of the Palmer family in the Huntley and Palmer biscuit company. He funded a free library in Reading. In 1876, he purchased Hoxton Hall in Hackney on behalf of the Blue Ribbon Gospel Temperance Mission.

Huntley and Palmers is a company of biscuit makers. It was founded in 1822 in Reading by Joseph Huntley (1775-1857). He passed the business to his son, Thomas ( - 1857), who brought in his Quaker cousin George Palmer (1818-1897) who brought in his brothers: Samuel and William Isaac. Sons of George and Samuel also joined the business.
