William Tierney Clark

Civil Engineer. Born in Bristol. He designed the first Hammersmith Bridge and the Marlow Bridge across the Thames and bridges in Bath and at Welbeck Abbey. His greatest achievement was probably the Széchenyi Chain Bridge across the River Danube in Budapest, for which he was presented with a golden snuff box by the Archduke Charles, Emperor of Austria.  A plaque commemorating Clark was installed in Budapest in 1998. Died at Waterworks House, Hammersmith. We can't locate that but think it was probably part of the West Middlesex Water Company site.
