Woodlands

Built in the late 18th century, Woodlands' first occupant (1799–1814, the year he died) was Captain James Wilson

Along with the next door Dane House and 6 others, Woodlands was acquired by London County Council and demolished so that Ruskin Park could be created in 1907. The ground floor porches on the front and rear were saved to provide the park with a decorative all-weather shelter.

This extract from the shows no.170, Woodlands, immediately south of Dane House. The two houses were "nearly identical" when first built, though the map shows that Dane House was thereafter greatly extended.

Given the similarity of the houses one has to pay attention to details when looking at photos. The names some distinguishing features and this map helps (note that Dane House does not have the garden steps that Woodlands has).

See the page for Wilson's lost plaque for photos of the house, front and back.

Annoyingly the houses are at the very left-hand edge of the map. For completeness here's a showing the gardens (at the lower right-hand edge of that map, obvs.).
