Zepherina Veitch

Nurse and midwife. She trained at University College Hospital and at the British Lying-in Hospital.  In 1868 she took charge of the surgical wards at King’s College Hospital, and a year later was appointed as Superintendent of Nurses at St George’s Hospital. During the Franco-Prussian War she nursed in France, and on her return became Sister-in-charge at Charing Cross Hospital. She devoted herself to improving the status and efficiency of midwives.
