Battersea Arts Centre - fire

Inscription

On the afternoon of Friday 13th March 2015, a fire started in the Grand Hall. This steel truss had held up the structure for 122 years. When it buckled in the heat, the roof collapsed.

80 fire fighters from South London fought the blaze for 4 hours. Through their brave efforts, the rest of the building was saved.

{Many other large planters along the walkway at the side the Arts Centre are inscribed with other texts, such as:}

Thank you ..

To the staff member who ran back inside to grab building plans for the fire fighters.

To the people who came and gathered and watched and shared.

To the political party ..{text lost} .. dark gave the keys to their office.

To the friends who hugged and held and said it would be alright.

To the artist who created #bacphoenix which went viral around the world.

To the charity for bringing a wagon of tea for the fire fighters.

Generosity

You're invited to enjoy this garden - a symbol of gratitude and a celebration of generosity. Thank you.

On the night of the fire there were generous acts of hope, courage & care. Thank you.
