The Tree Council in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has designated the Charlton House Mulberry as one of fifty great British trees in recognition of its place in the national heritage June 2002.

The plaques are on the ground at the foot of the tree. The tree is one of several which are reputed to be the oldest in Britain. The building in the background is the former orangery of Charlton House, which was converted into a public lavatory in 1938 but is now closed.
