The first mulberry tree planted in England in the year 1608 by order of King Charles I.

The plaques are on the ground at the foot of the tree. The tree is one of several which are reputed to be the oldest in Britain. The building in the background is the former orangery of Charlton House, which was converted into a public lavatory in 1938 but is now closed.
