Croydon Minster war memorial - cross

Inscription

{Inscription on the plinth}
To the glory of god and in grateful memory of those from this parish who gave their lives during the great war 1914 - 1918.
They died that we might live.

"They died that we might live." is a quite common inscription on war memorials and sounds like a quotation but we cannot identify a source.
