Dog and Pot sculpture

Erection date: 6/2/2013

Inscription

{Plaque laid in the terrace at the base of the post:}
"My usual way home was over Blackfriars Bridge, and down that turning in the Blackfriars Road which has Rowland Hill's chapel on one side, and the likeness of a golden dog licking a golden pot over a shop door on the other."
Charles Dickens, 1812 - 1870

Dickens was a boy of 12 when he passed this sign on his way to work in 1824. The original shop sign is now in the Cuming Museum. This recreation was presented on the eve of Dickens' 201st birthday by a descendent, Mark Dickens.
