Plaque

Elizabeth Barrett Browning plaque

Erection date: 1899

Inscription

Elizabeth Barrett Barrett, poetess, afterwards wife of Robert Browning, lived here, 1838 - 1846.

'Barrett Barrett' was indeed her maiden name (ensuring one's inheritance sometimes required abnormal naming commitments). The text and sentiment of this plaque seems particularly non-PC to the modern ear.
