The Worshipful The Mayor, Councillor Mrs Elizabeth Russell, planted the first replacement tree, a Ginkgo Biloba (Maidenhair Tree) in the Royal Borough's Open Spaces after the Great Storm of 16th October 1987. Three hundred and twenty trees were lost from these areas in one night of devastation.
