Sculpture

Greengrocers and sheep

Erection date: 1988

Inscription

{No inscription or information, that we could find.}

This sculpture commemorates the use of London Fields as a grazing area for livestock, a stop on the route for livestock and produce on its journey to the London markets in Cheapside, and Smithfield for the meat. Elsewhere the people are described as flower-sellers but we think this would not be historically correct and anyway, the contents of their baskets look more like fruit and veg.

: the sculpture has been restored.
