Grim's Dyke - Harrow Heritage

Inscription

Grim's Dyke
"This house was designed by R. Norman Shaw, architect, in 1872, for Frederick Goodall, painter; was later home of W. S. Gilbert, writer and librettist, from 1890 to 1911, who drowned in the lake".
Harrow Heritage Trust

We can't explain the quotation marks on the inscription and think they are probably not significant.

HA3, Old Redding, Grim's Dyke

We thank our colleague Alan Patient for the photos of this brick-coloured plaque. it can just be seen in the photo, on the sunny face of the brick pillar. This is the entrance to the grounds of Grim's Dyke. See the blue plaque on the house itself for more information on the house, and the lost plaque, at a lake in the grounds for more information on Gilbert's death.
