Hackney Town Hall restoration

Erection date: 13/6/2017

Inscription

This stone commemorates the completion of the restoration of Hackney Town Hall in its 80th year and the opening of the Lanchester and Lodge atria by Jules Pipe CBE, Deputy Mayor of London, and Mayor of Hackney 2002 - 2016.
13th June 2017

Site: Hackney Town Hall restoration (1 memorial)

E8, Mare Street, Hackney Town Hall - north atrium

The most visible result of the restoration is the creation of two atriums, north and south, from former service courtyards. These are, of course, , for weddings etc. Which is all fine. We wish the website copy-writers knew some basic Latin: 'atria' (or 'atriums') is the plural of atrium, so advertising the 'north atria' and the 'south atria' is just wrong.

2017: The reported: "Hackney Council held a secret £6,000 catered bash to celebrate a multi-million pound revamp of the Town Hall and to thank former mayor Jules Pipe for his 'contribution to Hackney'."
