Hammersmith war memorial

Erection date: 1922

Inscription

{Large plaque on the memorial's plinth:}
In grateful and honoured memory of the men of the borough who fell in the great war 1914 - 1918.
In the sight of the unwise they seem to die yet is their hope full of immortality.

{Small plaque on the plinth:}
Also those who gave their lives in the second world war 1939 - 1945.

{Separate plinth:}
The same inscriptions as appear on the two main plaques.

The quotation on the main plinth is adapted from the Apocryphal book of the Wisdom of Solomon, Chapter 3, Verses 2 - 4.

Seeing as how this face has only one eye, and it's closed, the quotation seems particularly ill-chosen.
