'Mother & Child' by Rebecca Hawkins
Commemorating all victims of sexual violence in conflict around the world and their children, including the Lai Dai Han of Vietnam.

"Mother and Child" was created by Hawkins and was commissioned by Justice for Lai Dai Han, a group campaigning for an independent UN-led investigation into allegations of widespread sexual violence by South Korean soldiers during the Vietnam War.
The 2 metre bronze sculpture weighs c.700kg, and depicts a mother and her child trapped by the roots of a Strangler Fig tree, a plant native to Vietnam. It was unveiled by Nadia Murad, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winner, in Church House, Westminster in 2019 and was then displayed in St James's Square where we found it in August 2019. We have the impression that it may not be permanent - please let us know if it is moved.
